Last week a Chinese AI lab released a model that sent US tech stocks lower.
The company is Moonshot AI. It's based in Beijing, it's three years old, and most American investors have never heard of it.
That's about to change.
Moonshot has told its investors it's preparing to go public in as early as six months. It's distributed a shareholder resolution seeking approval for a Hong Kong listing.
The company is also wrapping a funding round that could value the company at more than $30 billion.

Here's what is behind the timing.
On July 17, Moonshot released Kimi K3 — an open-weight model with 2.8 trillion parameters. The company says it outperforms every rival except Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 and OpenAI's GPT-5.6. One independent benchmark, Artificial Analysis, ranked K3 ahead of Anthropic's Opus 4.8 on some frontier tests. That's the first time a Chinese open-weight model has hit that mark.
Demand was immediate. Moonshot paused new subscriptions within 48 hours to preserve compute for existing users. It says daily sales have jumped at least six times since launch.
Annual recurring revenue hit $300 million in June – a 50% increase since April. More than 70% of that now comes from enterprise API usage rather than the consumer chatbot.
The valuation has jumped very quickly. Moonshot was worth roughly $300 million in 2023. It hit $20 billion in May. The current round targets a valuation of around $30 billion. Backers include Alibaba, Tencent, and Meituan.
There's a structural hurdle worth knowing. Moonshot is unwinding its offshore "red-chip" holding structure to satisfy Chinese regulators before an overseas listing. That's standard for mainland companies listing in Hong Kong.
Peers like Zhipu AI and MiniMax have already listed in Hong Kong to strong receptions. DeepSeek — the lab that rattled Silicon Valley in 2025 — is planning its own IPO in 2027.
The takeaway for US investors: the most closely watched AI IPOs of the next two years may not all be American. A cluster of well-funded Chinese labs is heading into the public stock markets, and Moonshot just moved to the front of the line.
Do you want to “test drive” my new AI Profit Predictor? It’s an amazing way to use AI to find trades with a high probability of profit. And it’s already delivering huge results.
This includes +100% gains with Tesla, Freeport, Disney, Iron Mountain and Paramount since May 14. Plus, a 228% gain on Freeport on June 22.
That’s 6 triple digit winners in the last 60 days!
